Check out The Freeze Project

“For our Freeze Project moments, we would like to draw a couple of hundred people at a time to participate in drawing attention to some of the social injustices of the world. Instead of protesting, we would like to create an experience that is fun, non-intrusive (in your face activism), and inclusive. We believe that we could use “the Freeze” to draw attention in a crowd, which will then be followed up with a brief handout to people about a particular social injustice in the world.”

And here is a video from the past event at Downtown Disney

Community and Basketball

Every day we walk by hundreds of people ranging from various ages, cultures, and backgrounds with very little sense of community. Yet when you place that diverse group on to a basketball court it seems community just naturaly springs up. People coming to play as individuals instead become part of a team.

Everyone starts to introduce themselves to get to know each other. Then everyone figures out where they are most comfortable and strongest in working as a team. The tallest guy usually knows his role is to play center and the shortest guys go to play up front as guards. If the team see’s they are lacking compared to the other team they can easily switch their strategy. When someone shoots a good shot they are automatically complimented. When someone shoots a really bad shot they are not shot down or told to stop playing but they are encouraged to continue and its okay for failing but just keep trying.

Community even exists apart from the two teams that are playing on the court. If the basketball starts rolling away from the court the team simply yells out “Help, a little help here!” And automitcally anyone near the ball will run up and grab it and throw it back to the team.

Of course there are also disagreements and agressive playing but it is all for the love of the game. Once the game ends everyone shakes each others hand with compliments and apologies for any fouls and then a new game starts.

I bring this up because many people describe it hard to create community in our world today. Or if there is community it is hard to invite new people into it. I think there is a lot we can learn with what goes on in street court pick up basketball game.

Just my thoughts, would love to hear what you think!

Lately I’ve been having a hard time focusing, jumping from task to task. I’ve never been good at multi-tasking but I know I need to start practicing because it will only get more busy. I would love to hear how you guys schedule your month, week or day?

Oracle v. Testimony

In about a month from now I will be sharing the story of God at a Jr. High Camp. I’ve shared the Word many times with youth and various communities but this time I questioned, what am I really doing? Maybe I should rephrase that… I guess the question is more, What is the purpose of me giving the message? Now don’t get me wrong! By that question I don’t mean “whats the point?” its more looking at what am I suppose to accomplish?

When I look back it seems I’ve been approaching opportunities like this as some type of oracle role. Coming to bring a Word from God, an agent of divine communication. But lately I’ve been pondering if instead of coming as a sole authority to impart wisdom to a community, should I approach it more as a fellow brother in Christ giving testimony of what God has already been illuminating in my walk. I understand there are some instances when you sense the Spirit directing you on a specific message for the specific community, but what happens when that doesn’t occur? Is that when my role of an oracle switches to one of testimony? I do also understand , as stated 2 Timothy 3:16 , that all scripture is God breathed. So does that mean we shouldn’t be waiting for a specific direction because all of scriptures is useful. Or is there a balance between the two? Right now I’m leaning more towards my role as sharing my testimony but if God gives me a specific Word then I must be the vessel in which to share.

I would love your thoughts on all this!

Stay Blessed,
